Hello Everyone!!
We had another busy month here at the shelter. We have a Happy story, and we have a sad story-
The Happy story is that we had another spay/neuter clinic here at the shelter just this past weekend. It was AWESOME!! Dr. Welsh and Sahaja his vet tech drove in around 9 on Saturday morning and spent 2 days spaying and neutering. They left Sunday night and had gotten 57 surgeries done! Everything went well, and we had a great group of volunteers and sponsors. A BIG Thank- You goes out to C.A.R.E. Transports out of Denver who donated 15.00$ towards the first 40 spays and neuters. This helped ALOT of people out here who do not have much money be able to get their animals fixed! yeah! Dr. Welsh (a.k.a. Superman), Sahaja, Marci and everyone -- GREAT JOB!!! and THANK YOU!!! We are planning another clinic next month. Help is always needed for the suplies we will need.
The puppies are doing great. We plan on neutering them all next month, and then they will be ready for their new homes. We also have 6 tiny shelties, and FINALLY Ciego the toy aussie with no eyes arriving THIS week.
We had a sad sad tragic thing happen. Little Misee the pekingese who finally found her forever home with her sisiter Yvonne got very sick and we had to have her euthanized last week. It was absolutely horrible, and now we get to worry about paying the vet bill. Michelle and Conan the wonderful couple who had Misee and Vonnie wrote a letter to you all to tell you Misee's story and to ask for help. This is the biggest scariest bill we have ever had here, so ANY help we can get would be SO SO appreciated! Please read below . :)
THANK YOU all who have helped savelives! We appreciate you!!!

Hello,
My name is Michelle and I would like to share with you the story of Misse.
It all started one evening when my husband Conan and I were looking on-line at petfinder.com. We were looking at all the available pets for adoption. We realized that our Miniature schnauzer, Stella would be lonely without her friend around that we had been babysitting. He and Stella had become close and the year previous we had lost our little man Rusty. He was 15 yrs old when he passed away.
As we searched we made it all the way to P.
Then there they were. Two of most beautiful little angels. Conan found them first and showed me the picture. Yvonne and Misse. White and blonde. I was sure they had found a home already. When I called the number the next morning and wrote an email inquiring about them I honestly didn't expect a return email/ call. They were both so precious.
Then I got the phone call from Tami. I would say it was an instant connection. We started the adoption, Passed our home inspection, and were getting very excited about the possibility of becoming these girls new forever home. We understood they were survivors of a puppy mill and had to be adopted together. They had many issues to overcome. We were more than able to stand up to the challenge.
We went to Hope4fuziefaniez rescue and sanctuary June 26th on a Saturday. As everything fell into place it seemed perfect. Meeting the girls filled our hearts and when we brought them home they fit right in. They both thrived and were learning everyday. Each issue was overcome one by one. They played everyday with Stella. Within a week they were going outside to potty.
They took to their new schedule amazingly. Every morning misse would hear the alarm and get so excited. Conan would pick them up to go upstairs and outside. He would turn around and say " see my propellers". All you could see were both tails just spinning around with excitement to start the day.
When I have to take my mom to dialysis 3 times a week, if it isn't scorching hot out we all go for the ride.
Misse loved being groomed and any attention she could get. She would jump up on you and want to be picked up. She loved to play and run with her sister Yvonne. She was in someone's arms most of the time. She would just look up at you as if trying to take in all the love she could.
It was almost a month and a half when Tami asked us if we could foster Karat a 9 yr old Miniature Pincher. With everything going so well we agreed and She arrived on the 15th of Aug.
Everyone was getting along great. The girls were helping Karat get adjusted to her new life.
Karat was here for almost a week when Misse and Yvonne started getting sick. It started late Saturday evening on aug 21st.
Sunday, all day both Yvonne and Misse didn't eat much and where vomiting and had diarrhea. It wasn't severe. Maybe twice each. Karat started showing signs of coming down with something also.
Monday morning arrived and Misse wasn't looking very well. I kept a vigilant eye on her and was in constant contact with Tami and a vet, the entire day. Toward the afternoon and evening she took a turn for the worse and by late Monday night we had to rush her to the 24 hour vet. She didn't make it. They had to put Yvonne and Karat on Antibiotics, and they ran many tests to try and figure out what was happening. Nobody knows exactly what it was. Stella never has shown signs of sickness.
It might have been because it was almost 3 in the morning when the vet spoke to us but I really don't understand what happened. They had some kind of bacterial infection and little misse's body just couldn't handle it.
It was on of the scariest thing we have had to go thru since having to take my daddy off of life support 5 yrs ago.
I know that we wouldn't have been able to save the other two without Tami. She covered the cost of the visit by charging it to her credit card. It ended up being almost 1,000 dollars.
The same night another woman brought her 9 month old puppy in with the same symptoms and ended up losing her puppy as well. She was also in contact with a vet all day.
Heartbroken and unsure how to pay Tami back for all of this is weighing heavy on my heart.
I knew it was going to be costly but I had no idea to what extent.
My family is just like anyone else's. My husband works very hard and has been an airplane mechanic for almost 10 yrs now. My mommy is very sick and on dialysis. Because of her condition and all the side effects of kidney failure I have to stay home with her. We struggle from pay check to pay check, recently more than ever. My husband was laid off at the end of may and had to take a job with a huge pay cut.
When all of this happened last week we didn't have a dime to our name. We might have lost all four of our dogs if not for Tami. How do I go about paying her back for all she has done to support us and help us thru this tragedy? Tami is truly our guardian angel!
Life has a way of piling things on you when your down. It's the measure of a person who can struggle thru it all and come out on top again. The expression " god only gives you what you can handle" seems fitting right now.
My heart is heavy and broken but I must go on and get out of bed each day for my husband and for my precious mommy and our beautiful dogs.
I have to ask for help. It's never easy to ask people for help. Only because I know you are all in the same boat as us.
I did all that I could and I couldn't stop what happened. I can't control what's going to happen only how I react to it.
I am going to do anything and everything I can to try and pay Tami back for helping us when we really needed it.
If you can find it in your hearts to contribute to my endeavor I will forever be in your debt. I will always be in Tami's life and promise to help her in anyway I can. Thank you for letting me share a piece of my heart with you, for little Misse held everyone's hearts that had the privilege of caring for her.
Sincerely,
Michelle and Conan Poitra |
