January 2009

Welcome to January and 2009!

Updates:

-We took part in a very large transport from high kill shelters in Missouri.  It was very cold that night and crazy with all of the rescue groups picking up their dogs/cats.  They brought approximately 30-40 dogs/cats to safety that night and we brought eight of them back to the shelter for adoption.  See pictures below of Tami taking the animals to safety.

-There will be another transport next week from high kill shelters and we are receiving three Chihuahuas.  Pictures of two of them can be found below.  The tan colored Chihuahua is named Sparky and he’s about 8 pounds.  He’s a little shy but should come around great after Tami spends some time with him.  The darker one is named Nefeeko and he’s around 9 pounds.  He enjoys other dogs and apparently doesn’t seem to notice cats.  He should do very well in a new home.  If you would be interested in donating to help offset the cost of these transports or adopting one of these little guys, drop Tami a note at fuziefaniez0@yahoo.com. Both of these guys were in the shelter because their owners passed away and unfortunately were placed on the euthanasia list.  They were so scared of people that the shelter did not consider them adoptable.  They’ve been doing great in foster care though and will be ready for families soon after they spend some time with Tami.

How you can help:

Our stove is here and is working great!  See the picture below of Jack and Judy who helped immensely get the stove working.  Thank you again to everyone who helped us keep the animals warm this winter.  We still need some help for pellets to keep the stove going so donations for this are definitely needed.

We do have one furry that could use your help.  Miss Cassie had surgery to remove bladder stones.  It is very unusual for a female cat to have bladder stones, but Miss Cassie had this problem.  It was a difficult surgery but she is healing nicely and is almost back to her old self.  However, we have a $350 bill to pay for the surgery and really need some assistance in covering this cost.  This is a picture of Miss Cassie in her foster home.

Sponsorship

In October we began a sponsorship program.  Since donations have dwindled to a very low level, we asked all of those shelter supporters to please think about a commitment to Hope 4 Fuzie Faniez by establishing a monthly giving plan and FIVE people have now signed up for this.  It’s been wonderful to be able to count on regular donations to keep the shelter going.  We would like to encourage others who do donate to think about participating.  A monthly plan allows Tami to budget how much she can afford for operational expenses and also ensures that she will adequately be able to provide enough food for all of the adoptees and residents. All you need to do is decide how much you and your family can afford to send per month, tell Tami of your commitment, and send that amount via paypal or checks on a monthly basis.  Tami needs you to help her care for the animals during the economic slump.

Fundraising

There are other ways you can help the shelter with just your computer and a little time.  With your help, Hope4FuzieFaniez could win a $10,000 donation from Care2.com. Hope4FuzieFaniez will need the votes of your friends and family by January 31, 2009 to win.  Please help Hope4FuzieFaniez win $10,000 in Care2's "America's Favorite Animal Shelter" contest - vote here:

You could help with fundraising in lieu of providing a monetary donation.  Ally needs people to help with contacting businesses for donations, “selling” logo space on our new adoption brochures to local businesses, and also help with finding appropriate grants to apply for.  And, if you have some other fundraising ideas she’d love to hear about those too!  Please contact Ally at ally.mead@colorado.edu.

Success story:

Our success story for January is an amazing one.  Grover and Max both found homes this holiday season.  Grover is a Golden Retriever Tami rescued literally four seconds before he was going to be euthanized and Max is a little cocapoo who was also going to be euthanized.  Below are pictures of both dogs going home with their new family three days before Christmas.   Those are two lucky dogs and of course a very lucky family!

Shelter supporters:

To the Grahan family for giving Grover and Max a new home, new life, and a second chance!

To Monique for adopting Lucky the Terrier and giving him a GREAT new life!

To Enid and Doran L. For adopting Two sister cats Jezibel and Delilah and letting them stay TOGETHER in their new home!

To Jean T. For giving the cat Peaches a new awesome home!

To Kristine N. For taking on the BIG task of adopting Greyson and giving him a chance!
