February 2009

Welcome to February!

Updates:

-Good news!  We received a Petfinder grant for a portable generator.  Now the animals won’t have to worry about the stability of resources in the upcoming winter months.  We expect it to be delivered to us next month.  Thank you Petfinder!

-We have been doing lots of spays/neuters thanks to the Animal Assistance Foundation’s grant.  So, we have lots of dogs/cats now available for adoption.  If you’re looking to add a new member to your furry family, contact Tami at fuziefaniez0@yahoo.com to see if there might be someone special at the shelter for you.

-At the beginning of January we did take in three Chihuahuas from high-kill Midwest shelters.  Pictures of two of them can be found below.  The tan colored Chihuahua is named Sparky and he’s about 8 pounds.  He’s a little shy but should come around great after Tami spends some time with him.  The darker one is named Nefeeko and he’s around 9 pounds.  He enjoys other dogs and apparently doesn’t seem to notice cats.  He should do very well in a new home.  Both of these guys were in the shelter because their owners passed away and unfortunately were placed on the euthanasia list.  They were so scared of people that the shelter did not consider them adoptable.  There is another Chihuahua that came on the same transport.  She is 10 years old, is named Barbie, and was also in the shelter because her owner passed away.  The other pictures are of the transport that brought these babies to safety.

We also want to feature Cleo" a 1-1/2 year old extremely sweet baby girl who is ready for adoption. She was taken out of a kill shelter and is at Fuzie Faniez waiting for her new family.

How you can help:

We have several cats at the shelter that have issues that need individual attention.  Some of the kitties are older and are dominated by younger cats.  Other kitties just don’t play well with others.  We need a way to keep them socialized but not at the expense of the other animals.  Therefore we need to purchase a few stand alone cat enclosures.  Tami has selected the ProSelect enclosures on this website: http://homeandkennel.petedge.com/ProSelect-Standard-Foldable-Cat-Cages-ZW334.pro?parentCategoryId=194&categoryId=310&subCategoryId=502.  If you would like to buy an enclosure for Tami or donate some funds toward the purchase of one please let Tami know.  She’s urgently trying to get a few of these so that EVERY cat at the shelter can have somewhere safe to live until their new owners come.  A cage purchase is considered an animal sponsorship and your name would be placed on every cage that you purchase for the shelter.

Sponsorship

In October we began a sponsorship program.  Since donations have dwindled to a very low level, we asked all of those shelter supporters to please think about a commitment to Hope 4 Fuzie Faniez by establishing a monthly giving plan and FIVE people have now signed up for this.  It’s been wonderful to be able to count on regular donations to keep the shelter going.  We would like to encourage others who do donate to think about participating.  A monthly plan allows Tami to budget how much she can afford for operational expenses and also ensures that she will adequately be able to provide enough food for all of the adoptees and residents. All you need to do is decide how much you and your family can afford to send per month, tell Tami of your commitment, and send that amount via paypal or checks on a monthly basis.  Tami needs you to help her care for the animals during the economic slump.

Fundraising

You could help with fundraising in lieu of providing a monetary donation.  Ally needs people to help with contacting businesses for donations, “selling” logo space on our new adoption brochures to local businesses, and also help with finding appropriate grants to apply for.  We are also working on designing t-shirts and hope to have them available in the near future.  And, if you have some other fundraising ideas she’d love to hear about those too!  Please contact Ally at ally.mead@colorado.edu.
