April 2009

Welcome to April!

Updates:

Website

Hope4FuzieFaniez is getting a new look!  Virtually, that is.  We are working hard on a new website that will include lots of pictures of the shelter after all the new updates.  All of the animals for adoption and the permanent residents will be featured with photographs and their stories.  We’ll let you all know when it’s ready to go!

New board member

Mike Ostrowski has joined the Hope4FuzieFaniez Board of Directors as the new Secretary. Mike and his wife adopted two cats from the shelter and he has been a volunteer here ever since. Mike lives in Denver and owns his own pet photography business (Fourpawphoto) and is a vet tech student at Bel Rea. Welcome aboard!

Calendar contest

We’re also working on some exciting new events, such as a photo contest for our first annual calendar!  If you’d like to enter or just want to know more, check out the details on our new webspace at http://www.hope4fuziefaniez.com/events.html.  The contest begins on April 1, so start taking pictures of your favorite furries!

Grants

We have another grant under consideration, this time from the Ahimsa Foundation.  Keep your fingers crossed!

How you can help:

Donations

Every shelter is feeling the pinch from the recession and Hope4FuzieFaniez is no different.  Right now we’re battling the bitter cold in the shelter building and are running very low on funds for pellets for the stove.  It was a rough storm that just blew through the area and we used nearly all of the pellets to keep everyone warm.  We can buy the pellets locally, but would really appreciate some donations in order to ensure that no one goes cold this year.  We also need to purchase a few thermo heat lamps from Sam’s Club for the older animals and those not feeling well or have just returned from surgery.  We need roughly four of these lamps to ensure that these dogs and cats are also kept warm and comfortable as the icy winds blow across the grounds.

GoodSearch

GoodSearch is a toolbar you download and put on your regular internet browser.  Then, instead of going to google.com or another type of search engine, you just type what you want to search for in the GoodSearch box and Tami and the furries will receive $0.01 from GoodSearch for every single search you complete through their toolbar.  This isn’t much, but imagine how much she could get each month if everyone on this email list used GoodSearch and selected Hope4FuzieFaniez their charity.  This was included in last month’s email and so far Tami will receive $5.19 (a free large bag of cat litter) just from Goodsearching!

If you would like to get in on this awesome way to give just by doing something most people do every day (searching for something online) without any cost to you:

1.  Go to www.GoodSearch.com

2.  Then, under “who do you GoodSearch for” put in: Hope4FuzieFaniez and click verify

3.  Then, click Add GoodSearch to your IE, Firefox, or Mac toolbar

4.  A new page will appear and you simply click the download button.

5.  After it is downloaded to your computer you will then click run to install the program.

6.  After it is installed, re-open your internet browser and see your new GoodSearch!  Every single time you use it, you give a little bit more to the animals at Fuzie Faniez.

Oh, and many people are concerned with internet security (and rightly so), but GoodSearch is a legitimate company and they do not ask for any information from you to download their software, they do not charge you anything, and they do not take any information from your computer.  Basically, the program just allows you to search for the benefit of a charity.

Cages

We have several cats at the shelter that have issues that need individual attention.  Some of the kitties are older and are dominated by younger cats.  Other kitties just don’t play well with others.  We need a way to keep them socialized but not at the expense of the other animals.  Therefore we need to purchase a few stand alone cat enclosures.  Tami has selected the ProSelect enclosures on this website: http://homeandkennel.petedge.com/ProSelect-Standard-Foldable-Cat-Cages-ZW334.pro?parentCategoryId=194&categoryId=310&subCategoryId=502.  If you would like to buy an enclosure for Tami or donate some funds toward the purchase of one please let Tami know.  She’s urgently trying to get a few of these so that EVERY cat at the shelter can have somewhere safe to live until their new owners come.  A cage purchase is considered an animal sponsorship and your name would be placed on every cage that you purchase for the shelter.  This picture shows Dipsy and Darby, two brothers that came from a high kill shelter, enjoying the donated cages while they wait for their forever home at Hope4FuzieFaniez  (special thanks to their sponsor, Jane).

Success story:

Delilah and her sister Jezebel are calico cats that came from a high kill shelter in the Midwest.  They spent many months at Fuzie Faniez waiting for just the right home.  In February, Enid Lummis’ daughter came to Fuzie Faniez to find a feline friend for her mother and Delilah and Jezebel were the lucky kitties.  Now, Delilah rides on the front of Enid’s walker and Jezebel is learning to ride as well. Both girls are very happy and grateful someone adopted them both so they could spend the rest of their lives together.
